What we do: Projects for young people
Offering young people meaningful and fun activities
We value young people at YMCA Thames Gateway, and we offer them a range of programmes to keep them safe, give them positive things to do.
Skills and Training
A2B
The A2B programme offers 16 – 19 year olds, the opportunity to gain qualifications in English, Maths, and I.C.T. We also offer a Personal, Social Development qualification and vocational training that allows young people to build skills and knowledge around their chosen interest or career choice.
Detached work with young people
We have a detached youth work team who go out to where young people are – where they meet and hang out.
The aim of this is to work with young people who would not usually take part in youth projects.
Sport and Physical Activity
The YMCA is continuing to thrive with 10 teams. We have 115 children and young people between 5 and 15 years old with the majority participating in Sunday league Football. Our committee of volunteers has grown and now has its own Fundraising Committee who has successfully raised funds for the teams. Some of our young people have progressed into College sports qualification and are working as sports coaches having gained FA coaching certificates. The football teams train at Dartford Park. This is also their home ground. To find out more about our football clubs contact John Goodman on 07872 112579
We already offer a range of projects to help our young people to get jobs, learn new skills, and make positive choices about their lives and are regularly introducing new projects. Details of new projects can be found on our News page.
Our Community
We encouraged our young people to work together and respect each other, YMCA staff and volunteers.
We also offer opportunities for young people to be actively involved in the YMCA's decision making process.
